EMMALINE JAMES
ARTIST BIO

Upon finishing a Bachelor of (Visual) Arts at Edith Cowan University in 2016, Emmaline James began working as a professional Arts Worker in Geraldton, Western Australia. With a background in Administration, Emmaline has worked on a variety of creative projects and has served on the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery & Funtavia Fringe Festival Boards. She was the Administrator for ACDC Geraldton, established the Arts & Cultural Centre for the Shire of Yalgoo & Co-Founded Geraldton Open Studios & Surrounds.
Emmaline's company Frida Grace project manages GOSS & she is currently completing a contract with Regional Arts WA.
Emmaline's personal works have been showcased in group exhibitions and she was awarded the Western Australia Women’s Society of Fine Arts & Crafts Travel and Exhibition Scholarship travelling to Vancouver Canada during her undergraduate degree.
Emmaline leapt back into the Studio in 2021 and uses painting and sculpture to consider the connection between memory, relationship & the third space. She incorporates colour & repurposed / recycled materials to map place whilst counteracting the traditional maps assertion that “this is how the world is”. She invites the viewer to participate in her vision of cultural truths whilst encouraging them to construct their own.
